Family weekend in an Ardennes country house

In our inspiration blog, we let our guests have their say. They talk about their holiday experiences and give first-hand tips for fun things to do and interesting places to visit at their holiday destination.

My sister and I wanted to make our parents' 30th wedding anniversary something very special. We are both quite the organisers, so we started organising it well in advance. The first thing was finding the right place. Not too far from home, so that everyone could easily get there, and it had to be a really super deluxe accommodation. We chose a large holiday home, not far from Malmedy. We found it at ~~casapilot~~, which specialises in luxury holiday homes in the Ardennes.

An unforgettable weekend

We arrived on Friday evening. It was great to see the whole family together again! Unfortunately, it rained non-stop on Saturday, but we still had a great day together. It started with an extensive breakfast, provided by the catering service. The children were busy all day in the pool and the playroom and the adults had plenty of time to catch up. In the evening, when the little ones had gone to bed, we thoroughly enjoyed the sauna and the whirlpool. With a drink, for once that is allowed...

My tips for trips

Sunday was glorious weather. We had made a list of excursions in the area and started the day with a beautiful walk.

Reinhardstein Castle

The 5 km route around Reinhardstein Castle was really wild, with steep rock paths and beautiful views. At the end of the walk we visited the castle. We had already booked a guided tour. It was really interesting, the guide was dressed in a medieval costume and the children found it all very exciting, especially when they were allowed to shoot the archery themselves.

Xhoffraix Treasure Hunt

That afternoon we split up the group. The little ones went on a treasure hunt. The Xhoffraix Treasure Hunt starts in the Chez Remy tavern and runs along winding forest paths. Along the way you get clues to find the treasure and when you return to the tavern there is a real treasure chest with a surprise for each child. Very exciting, highly recommended for families with small children.

Peak Beer Brewery

With the adults we visited the Peak Beer Brewery, the highest brewery in Belgium, near Signal de Botrange. With the pure water from the High Fens, special beers are brewed here, such as the blueberry beer. We were given a fascinating tour and an extensive beer tasting with delicious regional cheeses and meats.
