Hiking and Expedition Weekend in Hockai - Spa-Francorchamps

As a large family, we were eager to spend quality time together again and began searching for the perfect holiday home for our family getaway. We quickly found what we were looking for on casapilot and chose a holiday home with an indoor pool and sauna– just in case the weather didn’t cooperate. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to avoid that situation!

We arrived in Hockai together on Friday evening. After unpacking our suitcases, we prepared a meal as a group and then made the most of the indoor pool. Later, we wrapped up the evening by the fireplace with a glass of wine and a friendly game of pool.

On Saturday morning, a catering service treated us to a lavish brunch that left nothing to be desired—the perfect way to start the day!

As enthusiastic hikers, we set off directly from our holiday home on Saturday after enjoying a hearty breakfast.

• The Hockai Waterfall Circuit – an idyllic circular hike through the Belgian Ardennes along the wild and romantic river La Hoëgne. This route is perfect for nature lovers seeking a diverse hiking experience, featuring stunning waterfalls, lush forests, and scenic river views. The trail covers approximately 10 kilometres.

Since we had plenty of brunch leftovers, we seized the opportunity for a family picnic along the banks of the Hoëgne. It was delightful to sit together in the heart of the Ardennes forest, soaking up the sunshine and fully enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

Back in Hockai, we relaxed with a regional beer on a hotel terrace and indulged in a delicious Belgian dinner. The day ended perfectly with some restful moments in our holiday home's wellness area. On Sunday morning, we gathered once again for breakfast, enjoying each other's company. My brother had already planned our next excursion: as passionate Formula 1 fans,

• visiting the famous Spa-Francorchamps race track was naturally a must. The track, beautifully set amidst the green Ardennes landscape, is renowned worldwide—particularly due to its legendary Raidillon de l'Eau Rouge corner. It regularly hosts major national and international motorsport events, making it well worth a visit.

To cap off our trip, we ventured to the High Fens for a final meal—and it was everything we hoped for. Bathed in bright sunshine, our whole family shared an assortment of tapas platters at Mont Rigi, enjoyed lively conversations, and took in the stunning views of the Belgian Ardennes. It was the perfect end to a truly memorable weekend.
