A Mallorca holiday full of discoveries

In our inspiration blog, we let our guests have their say. They talk about their holiday experiences and give first-hand tips for fun things to do and interesting places to visit at their holiday destination.

After a miserable winter, we wanted to see some sun again. That's why we looked for a subtropical destination for the spring break. We chose Mallorca, where the temperatures in February are already really spring-like. When looking for a holiday home, we noticed that most of them are located by the sea. Now, we are not beach people, we are more interested in nature and what real life is like outside the tourist resorts. At casapilot we found a 7-person villa inland that was still available. Because our babysitter and her boyfriend came along, there were exactly seven of us. With the flight and everything, it was quite a lot of money for a week away, but then we will go camping this summer...

In the middle of the vineyards, with a view of the mountains

Our super luxury villa in Santa María Del Camí was in a very beautiful location, between the vineyards and at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. Wonderful to enjoy the view from the edge of our pool. But we especially wanted to discover beautiful hidden places and authentic villages.

Our tips for discovering Mallorca

A cave and a waterfall

The 14 km long hiking trail to the village of Orient started practically on our doorstep. A beautiful walk, which starts calmly between the vineyards and becomes increasingly challenging. Our discoveries were the Avenc de Son Pou cave and the Salt des Freu waterfall near the end point. Salt des Freu means ‘jumping for joy’ and that is really a fitting name. Two 10 meter high waterfalls and a few smaller ones jump out of colored rocks. The perfect place to rest after a tough walk.

Almond blossom tour

One of the nicest things about a spring holiday in Mallorca is that you can experience the spectacle of the blossoming almond trees. We booked an almond blossom tour to make sure we would see the most beautiful orchards. A fantastic experience! The trip alone along narrow winding roads through the interior. On the way we stopped at a village café, where we ate almond cake and drank a cup of coffee with almond milk.

The Sunday Market of Santa María Del Camí

If you want to visit one of the most famous markets in Mallorca, you have to come to Santa María Del Camí on a Sunday. We spent a whole morning there, strolling between all the fresh produce from local farmers and on a café terrace on the edge of the square, where we could see everything.

Adventure in the Serra de Tramuntana

The mountains we were looking at seemed so mysterious that we wanted to visit them. So we hired a car for a journey of discovery. It was quite an adventure with all those hairpin bends and precipices. Very beautiful, wonderful views. The mountain villages where we stopped made the most impression. In the summer they might be overrun with tourists, but now they were rather sleepy.

Fornalutx is a beautiful village, surrounded by mountains. We walked between the old houses with their red roof tiles and green wooden shutters, and everywhere we saw orange and lemon trees. A real place to completely relax.

Another cute village is Deià. It is known as one of the most beautiful villages in Mallorca. Our walk here was more of a climb, because it goes up and down stairs.

Valldemossa is perhaps the most touristic village in the Serra de Tramuntana. It is beautifully situated in a valley full of cypresses. We walked through the old center with its narrow cobbled streets and cozy squares with cafes and restaurants. We also spent an hour in the 14th century Carthusian monastery, where we saw, among other things, the piano of Chopin, who lived in Valldemossa for a while.
